Lionel Messi reached a remarkable milestone in his career, but it came on a night of disappointment as Inter Miami were knocked out of the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
Messi scored his 900th career goal, yet the achievement was overshadowed by Inter Miami’s elimination after a 1-1 draw at home against Nashville SC, who progressed to the quarter-finals on the away goals rule.

For much of the night, the spotlight belonged to Messi. The Argentine superstar became only the second male player in professional football history to reach 900 official goals, achieving the feat in just 1,142 appearances, faster than Cristiano Ronaldo, who reached the same mark in 1,238 games.
Messi’s incredible tally includes 672 goals for FC Barcelona, 115 for the Argentina national team, 32 during his time at Paris Saint-Germain, and 81 for Inter Miami.

The hosts made a perfect start, taking the lead just seven minutes into the game. Messi received a well-weighted pass from Sergio Reguilón at the edge of the box, controlled it effortlessly, turned past his marker, and fired a low left-footed shot into the far corner.
Inter Miami dominated possession in the first half, but Nashville goalkeeper Brian Schwake made several important saves to keep his team in the game.
After the break, Nashville raised their intensity, knowing that a single away goal could change everything. Their pressure paid off in the 74th minute during a chaotic moment in the penalty area.

A powerful shot from Alex Muyl was blocked by Gonzalo Luján, but the ball looped dangerously toward goal. Inter Miami goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair attempted to clear it but ended up pushing it into a crowded area, where Cristian Espinoza reacted quickest to tap in the equaliser.
Inter Miami pushed forward in the closing minutes in search of a winner, but Nashville held firm until the final whistle.
The result sealed Inter Miami’s exit from the competition, ending their hopes of lifting a continental title this season despite Messi’s historic achievement.
