When Nollywood producers decide to make an epic movie, Jagun Jagun sets the bar high.
Cast members include Adebayo Salami, Dele Odule, Yinka Quadri, Muyiwa Ademola, Odunlade Adekola, Fathia Balogun, Lateef Adedimeji, and Femi Adebayo.
Reflecting on the quantity of Nigerian movies that are released each year, it’s difficult to miss a pattern. It is in the sense that, out of the hundreds of movies that are presented each year, one consistently establishes itself as a strong contender for the title of best film of the year. Such a movie does a great job of delivering on a fundamental aspect of filmmaking, in addition to its exceptional casting and production design: storytelling.

Even though it seems premature to bestow such praise on a movie in 2023, Jagun Jagun unquestionably meets most of the criteria for a successful Nollywood production.
Jagun Jagun, a film made by Femi Adebayo, depicts the tale of Ogunjimi, a warrior who is feared both within and outside of his village. The presence of a young guy, however, exposes his vulnerabilities as he worries that his position of control would be overthrown shortly.
The Jagun Jagun teaser and trailer were sufficient to elicit praise and anticipation across the nation. The tremendous action experience that would keep spectators on the edge of their seats was promised in the two-minute video.
It’s reasonable to say that the movie delivers to a certain level given its top spot on Netflix Nigeria’s trending list and its fourth place on Netflix UK’s trending list.
When making an epic movie, Nollywood producers should follow the example set by Jagun Jagun. The Tope Adebayo and Adebayo Tijani-co-directed movie elevates dramatic performances, stunt execution, and production design to a whole new level, engrossing spectators in a made-up universe they probably won’t want to leave after two hours and fourteen minutes.
In terms of defects, the movie is a little under the surface because it supports the notion that editing and visual effects require greater focus.
