Shockwaves spread through Ogbomoso, Oyo State, as Gbolahan Oyedemi, a deputy police commissioner, reportedly took his own life on Monday, April 1.
Gbolahan Oyedemi, serving with the Force Criminal and Investigation Department in Lagos, was discovered dead in his private residence. He had previously served as the Aide de Camp to the late former Governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao-Akala, during his brief tenure in 2006.

According to reports from Ibadan, Oyedemi had instructed his aides to spend the Easter holidays with their families. However, he was found deceased in his home, raising questions about the circumstances leading to his tragic decision.

Residents expressed sorrow over the loss, emphasizing the need for greater awareness and support for mental health issues within law enforcement agencies. However, official statements from the police department are still pending, as efforts to reach Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, have been unsuccessful.
Dismissal of Special Constables due to extortion attempt
In a separate development, the Nigerian police have terminated the services of two special constables caught on video attempting to extort money from a Dutch tourist along the Moniya-Iseyin road in Oyo State. The officers, Jimoh Lukmon and Kareem Fatai, were promptly dismissed from their positions following the incident.
Blaming the Federal Government
The dismissed constables cited owed salaries by the federal government as a factor leading to their actions. They expressed their frustration, indicating financial hardships as a contributing factor to their lapse in judgment.
