Whittaker, who has previously lost to both Adesanya and Du Plessis, expressed his desire to reclaim the Middleweight championship. Despite his losses, he believes he deserves another shot at the title.
The UFC is set to hold UFC 305 in Perth, where Du Plessis is expected to defend his title. Whittaker’s comments suggest that he doesn’t agree with Adesanya skipping the line for another title shot.
Du Plessis, the South African fighter, hinted on social media about a potential fight in Australia without revealing the opponent’s name.
He teased,
“Looks like someone wants another beating in Aus [Australia]. I’m in, I also wouldn’t want to fight the King of Africa on home soil.”

Although Du Plessis didn’t directly name his opponent, many speculated it to be Adesanya.
Initially, there were rumors about their matchup at UFC 300, but Adesanya wasn’t medically cleared following his title win against Sean Strickland.
As for confirmation from Adesanya’s side, there hasn’t been any official announcement yet. However, there are reports suggesting his interest in the bout.
“Whittaker’s Reaction to Title Fight Circumstances: Set to Face Chimaev in Contender Match”
Whittaker has expressed his feelings about the title fight situation. The Australian MMA star would have preferred to compete for the belt in front of his home crowd. However, he’s set to face Khamzat Chimaev in a match to determine the number one contender instead.
“The Matchup is Scheduled for June 22 in Saudi Arabia”
According to Bloody Elbow, Whittaker, who suffered defeats against Adesanya and Du Plessis, confessed that it stung seeing Adesanya being prioritized for a title shot over him.
“But I understand. Dricus asked for that fight – he’s the champ, he gets what he wants, and Adesanya is a draw. It seemed like that fight was going to happen,” he said.
Whittaker also shared his perspective on the upcoming bout, mentioning that he could envision both fighters finding success on the fight night.
