The Nigerian government has decided to extend the public holiday for the Eid-el-Fitr celebration. Originally, the holiday was set for Tuesday and Wednesday. However, since the crescent moon marking the end of Ramadan wasn’t sighted on Monday, April 8 in Nigeria, fasting continued on Tuesday, April 9. Consequently, the Federal Government decided to add another day to the holiday.
In an announcement made on Tuesday morning, April 9, the Nigerian government declared Thursday, April 11, 2024, as an additional public holiday to mark Eid-el-Fitr for 2024.
This decision was communicated through a statement from the Ministry of Interior, signed by Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, the permanent secretary of the ministry.
The statement reads:
“The Federal Government has approved Thursday, April 11th, 2024, as an additional public holiday to celebrate this year’s Eid-El-Fitr.”
Dr. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, the Minister of Interior, expressed congratulations to the Muslim community for completing a spiritually fulfilling month of Ramadan. He also emphasized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a safe and prosperous Nigeria for everyone.
