Mohamed Salah has said the Pharoahs of Egypt will do all that could be within reach to defeat the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Both African monsters will take to the field in Garoua in their Group D opener on Tuesday.
The last time the two groups met at the AFCON was the 2010 version in Angola with the Egyptians winning 3-1.
It was Egypt’s absolute second win against the Eagles at AFCON while the three-time champions have prevailed on four events.
Also talking in Monday’s pre-match presser, Salah said:”We are not the top choices to win the Africa Cup of Nations, yet we will give a valiant effort to recover the title.
“I’m just one of eleven players that address Egypt. We will do all that we can to come on top in the upcoming match and in the competition overall.
“We need to strive to satisfy our hopes, playing each game collectively to win.
“I am yet to win my first title with Egypt, it would be a distinction to win the AFCON, it’s been a long time since I began addressing my nation, and lifting the prize would mean a great deal to me.”
