The Nigerian Senate has officially lifted the suspension of Senator Abdul Ningi, who was suspended on March 12, 2024. The decision to reinstate him was reached during a session on Tuesday, following a motion put forward by Deputy Minority Leader Senator Abba Moro.
Senator Moro’s motion included a formal apology on behalf of Senator Ningi and a statement taking full responsibility for Ningi’s previous actions. This gesture was significant in prompting the Senate to reconsider and ultimately end the suspension.
Senator Ningi’s suspension stemmed from an interview he had given, in which he alleged the existence of budget padding. His claims had sparked considerable controversy and led to his suspension pending further review.
With the suspension now lifted, Senator Ningi is expected to resume his legislative duties. The details of the session and the exact terms of his reinstatement are expected to be clarified in subsequent reports.
