Renowned Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor, affectionately known as Mama G, has revealed the main reasons behind the frequent deaths of Nollywood actors.
Speaking in Lagos last week, Mama G attributed these untimely deaths to the actors’ carelessness and negligence. She recounted her emotional experience at the funeral of the late comedy actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, which took place in his hometown of Enugu State late last month.
“When you’re passionate about your work, you often neglect your health. As long as you’re alive, you keep pushing yourself, but it takes a toll on your body. Some people are so careless that when they fall ill, they choose to visit a chemist or pharmacy for pain relievers instead of going to the hospital for a proper check-up. It’s a risky habit, and I don’t know how many people share my concern. This is why I blame carelessness. We’re so focused on making others smile that we forget to take care of ourselves,” Mama G stated.
Mama G explained why she broke down in tears at Mr. Ibu’s burial. When she approached his corpse and called him by his familiar name, he didn’t react, making her realize that he was truly gone forever.
“At that moment, I broke down in tears. It wasn’t that I expected him to respond, but it was the stark realization that he was gone forever,” she said.
She urged her colleagues to prioritize their health by getting regular medical check-ups and avoiding harmful activities.
Mama G also shared a profound personal experience with her faith that changed her life. “In 2016, God called me to work for Him. At that time, I was a teacher in the church but had never preached from the pulpit. It was an indescribable experience. God asked me to separate myself so He could speak to me. At first, I thought it was someone else talking to me, but I soon realized it was a divine voice.
“It took me some time to submit to this calling. I initially resisted, but my son reminded me that the owner of my life was asking me to separate myself for 21 days, or it could be extended to 100 days. Reluctantly, I complied, and by the time the 30 days ended, I was a changed person. I knew it was God who called me because He provided a platform for me to share my testimony. During my testimony, people began falling under the anointing.
“After this encounter, other pastors and evangelists started inviting me to their programs. That’s how I became an evangelist,” she narrated.
