Tension Rises in Rivers as Channels TV Reporter is Abducted

Gunmen in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, have kidnapped Mr. Joshua Rogers, a reporter for Channels Television. The incident occurred around 9 pm on Thursday, April 11, close to Rogers’ home in Rumuosi, Port Harcourt.

How the Abduction Happened

Joshua Rogers was driving his Channels Television branded car when the gunmen intercepted him. They pointed a gun at him and forcibly took him away in his own vehicle. Rogers had just completed an official assignment at the Government House and was returning from an event in Andoni.

Demands for Ransom

The abductors have already contacted Rogers’ wife, demanding a ransom of N30 million for his release. His cameraman confirmed the incident and made a plea for his unconditional release.

Political Context

The abduction comes at a time of heightened tensions between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). At a recent event, Governor Fubara issued warnings to local government chairpersons who he believed were supporting Wike, stating that they were digging their own graves.

Governor Fubara has reiterated his determination to remain in office until the end of his term. He was elected in the 2023 elections and assures the people of Rivers State that his administration will prioritize their safety and protect their interests.
