Guinness World Record: Davido Boosts Nigerian Chess Master Onakoya’s Guinness World Record Bid in New York

Renowned Afrobeat artist David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has thrown his weight behind the acclaimed chess Master, Tunde Onakoya, in his quest to break the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon.

Joining Davido in the support for Onakoya are Nigerian singer Adekunle Kosoko, also known as Adekunle Gold, Nigeria’s Consul-General in New York City, Ambassador Peter Egopija, and Omoyele Sowore, among others.

Onakoya’s Chess Updates for Guinness World Record

Onakoya took to his social media account on Thursday to share updates on the marathon. He reported, “Game number 100. 87 against my main opponent #CoachShawnMar. 13 against external challengers. We are now 31 hours in, with 27 to go! That puts us officially past the halfway mark. It’s looking possible now. Keep streaming, keep donating.”

The Chess Marathon Details

The event, held at New York City’s renowned Times Square, commenced at 10 am on Wednesday, April 17, and is set to conclude at 8 pm on April 19.

Onakoya is immersed in an intense chess marathon, aiming to play continuously for 58 hours without conceding a single defeat.
