In a historic and unprecedented decision, a Manhattan jury found Donald Trump guilty of all 34 charges of falsifying business records on Thursday. This landmark verdict marks the first time in American history that a former president has been convicted of a felony.

Notably, Trump is not only the first ex-president to be convicted of a felony, but he is also the first major-party presidential nominee to be found guilty of a crime while actively campaigning for the White House.

The jury reached a unanimous verdict on all 34 counts after nearly 12 hours of deliberation over the course of two days. The charges stemmed from allegations that Trump falsified business records in connection with hush money payments.

The former president is scheduled to be sentenced on July 11, just days before the Republican National Convention begins on July 15, where Trump is expected to be officially nominated as the Republican candidate for president.

Trump faces a maximum sentence of four years in prison for these convictions. However, similar cases often result in shorter sentences, fines, or probation. Should Trump win the upcoming presidential election against President Joe Biden in November, he would make history again as the first sitting president to be a convicted felon.
