After losing to China, D’Tigress made Nigeria proud to qualify for the World Cup by beating France.
The Nigeria women’s national team known as D’Tigress recorded a 67-65 victory over their compatriot from France in the 2022 FIBA Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
D’Tigress took control of the game in the second quarter to overtake France in a narrow win on Friday 11 February 2022.
D’Tigress lost in the first quarter 11-28 but won in the second quarter 16-10.
They dominated the third quarter 21-14 and managed to survive in the fourth quarter 19-13.
It was a much-needed win for D’Tigress after they lost 90-76 to China in their opening qualifier.
It was also a mission of revenge for D’Tigress when they lost to France in the group stage of the women’s basketball tournament at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in Japan last year.
D’Tigress has lost one and won one of the two FIBA Women’s World Cup qualifiers in Belgrade, Serbia.
D’Tigress will now face the rest of the African contingent in Mali in their final group stage match scheduled for Saturday 12 February 2022.
The win also means they have secured a place at the 2022 FIBA Women’s World Championship in Australia later this year.
