During a meeting with stakeholders in Lagos State, the Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced that the Federal Government would compensate property owners affected by the demolition required for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway construction.
This compensation amounts to N2.75 billion and is scheduled to be paid today.
Sympathetic Compensation
Umahi expressed empathy towards those affected by the highway construction, emphasizing the government’s commitment to providing fair compensation. He stated, “To show sympathy for people who voted for Mr. President, we would do everything possible to pay the human face compensation.” He further explained that over N2 billion would be disbursed for compensation from channel 0 to channel 3.
Compensation Process
The compensation process was inaugurated with ten individuals receiving compensation, including Olaotan Olamuyiwa of Checkmate and Kemi Osinibi of Landmark Kids Club by Maxtivity. Umahi directed the remaining property owners to liaise with the Compensation Committee Secretariat for their compensation.
Urgency in Process
Umahi emphasized the urgency of the compensation process, stating that tenants within the Landmark premises would receive alerts by 2:00 pm. He urged all concerned parties to meet with the committee, which would be available from 2:00 pm onwards to facilitate document signing and ensure timely compensation.
Phase One Compensation
The initial phase of compensation included ten property owners, with plans for subsequent compensations outlined by Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works for Lagos State.
