The Nigerian Air Force has announced plans to enhance its operations against banditry by acquiring 50 new aircraft by next year. This initiative aims to strengthen security in the North-West region and across Nigeria amidst reports of terrorists occupying Kainji National Park in Niger State.

Marshal Bala Abubakar, Chief of Air Staff, revealed this during the inauguration of new facilities at the 213 Forward Operational Base in Katsina State. The new fleet includes various aircraft like attack helicopters and airlift planes.

Additionally, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff, recently received two new helicopters for logistics, surveillance, and troop support. This acquisition marks a significant advancement for the Nigerian Army’s operational capabilities.

Meanwhile, the Clingendael Institute reported on Islamist extremists crossing into Nigeria through Benin, settling in places like Kebbi State and Kainji National Park. The military remains committed to combating these threats across the country.

The situation around Kainji Park has led to mass evacuations of local communities due to terrorist activities, highlighting ongoing security challenges in the region.
