Nigerian gospel singer Akinade Ibuoye, better known by his stage name Gaise Baba, has opened up about a deeply personal part of his life – a journey that spans from teenage struggles with pornography to his recent rise to fame, all while holding on to a vow of sexual purity.

In a candid conversation with Chude Jideonwo on the With Chude podcast, the gospel musician shared how he began watching pornographic content at the age of 15 and later became addicted. Despite this struggle, Gaise Baba revealed that he remained celibate until marriage, a decision that both he and his wife upheld.
“Yes, I got married as a virgin. My wife too,” he said. “It wasn’t easy. It took a while before we really found our way. I started watching explicit content at 15, and not long after, I found myself addicted. But even then, I made a personal commitment to purity.”
He explained that this commitment wasn’t just emotional or personal — it was spiritual. As a young man, Gaise Baba said he entered into what is known in Christian circles as a “covenant of purity.” This involved a conscious, intentional decision not to have sex until marriage. He took it a step further by putting it in writing and taking it to a pastor for accountability.
“I just scribbled something down and signed it,” he shared. “Then I took it to a pastor and said, ‘This is my covenant of purity.’ I meant it.”
However, not long after making that vow, he found himself caught in the trap of pornography addiction. It was a tough battle, one that he says many young men fall into, often without even realizing how serious it can become.
“I knew that under the right temperature and pressure, any man can fall,” he said, reflecting on how easily people underestimate the power of temptation.
Despite his personal battles, Gaise Baba has remained bold in speaking about controversial topics within the Christian faith. His unfiltered honesty and willingness to challenge certain religious norms have often stirred debate among believers. But his authenticity has also drawn admiration from younger Christians who are seeking real conversations about purity, temptation, and faith in today’s world.
His openness hasn’t just been about his past — it extends to the pain and personal losses that shaped his path to success. Gaise Baba revealed that his breakthrough moment, particularly with the widely acclaimed song “No Turning Back” featuring Pastor Lawrence Oyor, came shortly after he lost his mother.
“This season that everyone is now talking about started about two weeks after my mum died,” he said. “Fame came at a time I wasn’t even chasing it anymore. I wasn’t looking for recognition — it just happened.”
The song No Turning Back — originally released in early 2024 — gained widespread popularity only after the remix dropped. Before then, the original version had gone relatively unnoticed. But the remix struck a chord, especially among youth on social media, and quickly became an anthem. Its message of spiritual resilience resonated even with listeners outside the Christian community.
Gaise Baba’s story is not just about music or fame. It’s about the messy, real-life journey of a man who faced his struggles head-on and chose to walk a different path — not perfectly, but intentionally. His life reminds others that success can still come after hardship, and that purity, even in today’s world, is still possible — not without difficulty, but with grace and commitment.
