The Kaduna State House of Assembly has called for the prosecution of Nasir el-Rufai, the state’s immediate past governor, on charges of abuse of office and money laundering.
This recommendation follows an in-depth investigation conducted by an ad-hoc committee established by the House, chaired by Henry Zacharia.
In the report presented by Zacharia on Wednesday, it was revealed that many of the loans obtained during el-Rufai’s tenure were misappropriated and not utilized for their intended purposes. Additionally, the report highlighted instances where due process was not followed in securing these loans.
As a result, the committee has urged security and anti-corruption agencies to investigate and prosecute the former governor and several other implicated members of his administration. They are accused of engaging in improper awarding of contracts, misappropriation of public funds, and money laundering.
