Kylian Mbappe says he could stay at PSG despite serious links to Real Madrid

It is widely expected he will leave for the Bernabeu on a free transfer in summer

Superstar Mbappe insists he is ‘Parisian’ and is at a club with very high ambitions

He opened up on PSG’s misfiring front line with him, Neymar and Lionel Messi

Mbappe  has lifted the lid on his future and has refused to rule out staying PSG despite previously pushing for a move to Madrid .

The forward is one of, if not the, best young players in world football, and his desire to leave Paris for Madrid was widely reported in the summer.

The move did not come to fruition and while many expect the 22-year-old to leave for the Bernabeu on a free deal when his contract expires next summer, Mbappe insists it is not that simple.

He told ‘I don’t know. Today I have to take the time. It is not easy. Either way, I’ll be playing for a big club.

‘At first I was disappointed [not to leave]. But well, I am not in the third division, I am in a club that wants to win the Champions League.

‘I am Parisian, I have my family, I feel good, I have always said it. I just wanted to discover something else.’

Mbappe is currently playing in an all-star front line with Neymar and Lionel Messi, after the latter joined from Barcelona at the end of the summer window.

Despite their impressive attack, it has not been all plain sailing for PSG – and Messi in particular – with the team losing to Manchester City in the Champions League, and drawing in their last two league games to Nice and Lens.

That said, the team have already raced to an 11-point lead in a far-from-competitive top flight – one of the reasons many expect Mbappe to push for the exit.

On the misfiring front three, Mbappe noted: ‘We’re aware that we need to do more. When you have three players of that level, you can’t hide from it.

‘We need to do the things that keep us together as a collective. We each have to do our bit.’

And when asked if he is the ‘boss’ at PSG, he said: ‘It’s difficult. When you play with Neymar and Messi, it’s cheeky to call yourself the boss.

‘Now, I’m in a good spell, the team is doing well. We really don’t care about who the boss is. The goal is to put all three of us in the right conditions because we’re game-changers. It’s better that way.’
