The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has taken action against noise pollution in the city, temporarily closing several establishments between March 23 and April 26.

Closure of Churches:

Five churches have been affected by the closures, including St Monica’s Hall of Our Lady of Lord’s Catholic Church, Christ Rock of Fire Ministry, Wonderful Bible Prayer Ministries, God’s Porch Ministries, and an unnamed Catholic Church.

Closure of Hotels:

Nineteen hotels have also faced temporary closure due to noise pollution. Among them are School2bar, Blue Seasons Hotel and Suites, Sulerious Lakeside Hotel, Monero Hotel and Suites, and Lekki Hotel and Suites.

Other Closures:

Additionally, four markets and shopping complexes were shut down due to noise pollution and other environmental infractions.

Enforcement Operation:

On Friday, the state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, shared a post on his official account. He stated that various establishments, such as churches, bars, and hotels, in areas like Ifako-Ijaiye, Abule-Egba, Alagbado, Command, Abesan Estate, and Dopemu, were sealed due to noise pollution.

The statement highlighted LASEPA’s significant effort to tackle noise pollution and other environmental issues. It mentioned that a comprehensive enforcement operation was conducted in strategic areas of Ifako-Ijaiye, Abule-Egba, Alagbado, Command, Abesan Estate, and Dopemu within Lagos State.

Affected Establishments:

Various establishments, including churches, bars, and hotels, were sealed in the operation. Notable among them are the Catholic Church, Seventh Heaven Bar and Lounge, 1602 Hotel, Lourita Hotel and Suites, White Pavilion Hotel, and Quest Hotel and Suites.

Importance of Compliance: LASEPA emphasized the importance of businesses adhering to environmental standards. These closures aim to compel compliance and ensure a healthier environment for all residents.
