Both teams had good goal-scoring chances at intervals but failed to convert.

Chelsea’s Mason Mount was the most guilty of players who blew clear good goalscoring chances.

Christian Pulisic was the first to miss an open chance, firing straight at Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher from close range.

Chelsea’s Eduardo Mendy, who was the busiest of both goalkeepers saved two close shots from countryman, Sadio Mane midway in the first half.

The academy graduate missed three clear-cut chances, with two of those hitting the woodwork.

Liverpool had a goal disallowed on the 65th minute when Joel Matip’s header was adjudged for offside.

Chelsea had their own goal disallowed on the 77th minute when Kai Havertz’s header from a Reece James’ cross was rightly ruled out for outside.

With six additional minutes added, both teams scrambled for a winner, with Romelu Lukaku coming close to gifting the Blues the winner from close range.

Chelsea had a second goal controversially ruled out for outside on the 97th minute when Lukaku lashed into the back of the net from close after flooring a Liverpool defender.

Kai Havertz had a second goal rightly ruled out for offside on the 20th minute of extra time after scoring from a Lukaku square ball from the left.

Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabaga turned out to be the villain as he scooped his spot-kick over the bar in a shootout that had all 11 players of both teams getting involved.
