Officer Cadet Owowoh Princess Oluchukwu has made history by becoming the first Nigerian female officer to graduate from the renowned Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) in the United Kingdom.

At the Sovereign’s Parade in London on Friday, April 12, 2024, 24-year-old Oluchukwu joined 135 Officer Cadets who completed 44 weeks of rigorous training as part of Commissioning Course 232.
This significant milestone was announced by Atinuke Akande-Alegbe, a Senior Communications and Public Diplomacy Officer at the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office in Abuja.
Strengthening UK-Nigerian Cooperation
Oluchukwu’s graduation underscores the enduring commitment of the UK to support Nigeria’s Professional Military Education training. This commitment was reaffirmed during the UK-Nigeria Security and Defence Partnership talks in February 2024.
A Tradition of Excellence
Nigeria has a rich history at the UK military academy, with notable alumni including former Head of State Yakubu Gowon and Major General Emmanuel Undiandeye, the Chief of Defence Intelligence.
Oluchukwu’s Journey
Oluchukwu’s path to this historic achievement began in 2018 when she enrolled at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna State. Rising through the ranks, she distinguished herself as a Cadet Lance Corporal in her second year, eventually attaining the position of Company Senior Under Officer Charlie (CSUO C) in her fifth year.
In her fourth year, she excelled academically, earning first-class honors in Biological Sciences.
