The spokesperson for the state police command, SP Omolola Odutola, shared this revelation on her X handle.

Odutola explained that Rahemat, after discovering she had suffered another miscarriage, faked her kidnapping to avoid facing her husband’s disappointment.

“Rahemat Lateef, who was reported abducted by her husband, was never actually kidnapped. She orchestrated her journey to Kwara State to escape her husband’s anger, having faced repeated miscarriages. She planned the story and traveled to Kwara on her own; her supposed kidnapping was entirely fabricated. The anti-kidnapping team tracked her until she reappeared,” Odutola stated. “She is currently under medical attention and is safe.”

Reports indicated that Rahemat was frustrated by her repeated miscarriages and fabricated the kidnapping story as a means of avoiding her husband’s reaction. After fleeing to Kwara State, she eventually returned to Abeokuta with her father.

Last Thursday, Rahemat’s husband, Ogunbunmi Lateef, reported that he received a WhatsApp message informing him of his wife’s alleged abduction. Confirming this, Odutola had previously stated, “Ogunbunmi Lateef of Oke Lantoro reported that his pregnant wife, who was due for delivery, left home for the State Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta. He later received a WhatsApp message confirming her abduction by unknown armed men.”

The case highlights the emotional and psychological toll of repeated miscarriages and the lengths to which individuals might go to cope with such distressing experiences.
