Naira Abuse: EFCC Arrests Man for Spraying N200 Notes

Muhammad was apprehended after a video surfaced showing him dancing and spraying N200 notes. When confronted with the footage, he admitted to being the person in the video.

The EFCC’s statement detailed, “Muhammad was arrested on Saturday, May 25, 2024, based on intelligence linking him with the alleged spraying of Naira notes at G-Connect in Tunfure, Gombe State. Upon his arrest, he was shown a video where he was dancing and spraying Naira notes in N200 denomination. He admitted to being the one in the video.”

The commission has stated that Muhammad will face charges in court once the investigation is concluded.

This arrest is part of a broader effort by the EFCC to crack down on the abuse of the naira. Spraying and mishandling banknotes is considered an offence under Nigerian law.

Last Wednesday, PUNCH Online reported that the EFCC arrested another individual, Janty Emmanuel, based on intelligence that indicated she was seen spraying Naira notes at a social event, which she later admitted to.

In a related incident, the Federal High Court in Lagos State sentenced Idris Olarewaju Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, to six months imprisonment in April 2024 for abusing the naira, highlighting the serious legal consequences of such actions.

The EFCC continues to enforce laws against currency abuse to maintain the integrity and respect of the Nigerian Naira.
