The deportees landed at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Friday at 7 pm, arriving through the pilgrims’ wing of the airport. They were transported by a Southwind Airlines flight, TCGRB, from Turkey to Nigeria.

During the reception, the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, urged the returnees to embrace their experience and adhere to the law. Speaking through the Director of the North Central Zone, Alhaji Bashir Garga, she emphasized that the returnees were treated with respect to ease their ordeal. She also highlighted the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing their concerns.

Mrs. Umar announced that the government had provided financial assistance to help the deportees reach their various destinations. After arrival, officials from the Port Health Authority conducted health screenings, while NEMA and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) handled profiling. The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) cleared them for travel, and transportation arrangements were made.

A broad coalition of agencies was present to receive the deportees, including the Nigerian Immigration Service, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrant and Internally Displaced Persons, and the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons. Other involved bodies included the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. Additionally, representatives from the Port Health Authority and the National Intelligence Agency were in attendance.

This coordinated effort demonstrates the government’s dedication to supporting citizens in distress and ensuring their smooth reintegration into society.
