Nigerian Artists Earned ₦60 Billion from Spotify in 2025 after Surpassing 30 Billion Streams

Spotify has revealed that Nigerian artists earned over ₦60 billion in royalties in 2025, driven by more than 30.3 billion streams on the platform. The figures highlight the growing global appeal and commercial success of Nigerian music.

The data comes from Spotify’s annual Loud and Clear report, which offers insight into how artists earn from streaming and how music performs worldwide. According to the platform, the latest figures show rapid growth in Nigeria’s music industry, fueled by rising international demand and increased local listening.

Spotify noted that the earnings of Nigerian artists in 2025 grew by more than 140 percent compared to the last two years, pointing to expanding financial opportunities for musicians in the country.

Audience engagement also saw a major boost. Nigerian artists recorded 30.3 billion streams and spent a combined 1.6 billion hours being listened to on the platform. Their music also reached new listeners over 1.3 billion times, marking a 26 percent increase from 2024.

Within Nigeria, local music continued to dominate streaming charts. Nigerian artists made up more than 80 percent of songs on Spotify Nigeria’s Daily Top 50 chart in 2025. Local consumption of Nigerian music also rose sharply, increasing by 170 percent compared to the previous year.

Commenting on the report, Jocelyne Muhutu-Remy, Managing Director of Spotify Africa, said Nigerian music is expanding both globally and at home.

She noted that Nigeria’s music scene continues to thrive on creativity, innovation, and cultural influence, with artists reaching wider audiences while building stronger connections locally. She added that the report highlights how Nigerian artists are finding new ways to grow sustainable careers and shape the future of music.

The report also showed strong growth across different segments of the industry. Streams of Nigerian female artists increased by 55 percent, while independent artists recorded a 75 percent rise in streams.

Spotify further revealed that about 58 percent of royalties earned by Nigerian artists in 2025 went to independent artists or labels, showing the increasing importance of independent creators in the music industry.

In terms of visibility, nearly 2,000 Nigerian artists were featured on Spotify’s editorial playlists during the year, helping them reach wider audiences.

Globally, Nigerian artists appeared in almost 320 million user-created playlists. Within Nigeria, more than 12 million playlists included Nigerian music, while over 60 million playlists featuring Nigerian artists were created on the platform in 2025 alone.

Beyond Afrobeats, listening habits in Nigeria are also evolving. Over the past five years, genres such as pop urbaine, alternative pop, anime, emo, and drill have seen the fastest growth, reflecting a more diverse and dynamic music scene in the country.
