The Nigerian government has introduced a new mobile app designed to allow citizens to monitor government activities in real-time. This app is now accessible on the Google Play Store for Android users and the Apple Store for iPhone users. Officials stated that this move is aimed at ensuring complete transparency between the government and its citizens, enabling citizens to hold political leaders accountable.
The Nigerian government has taken a significant step towards enhancing transparency and citizen involvement with the launch of the updated Citizens’ Delivery Tracker App.
This app, which can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and Apple Store, enables citizens to actively monitor the progress of government projects and programs nationwide.
The announcement was made via the president’s media team’s platform (previously known as Twitter) on Monday, April 8.
During the launch event in Abuja, Ms. Hadiza Usman, Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination and Head of the Central Delivery Coordination Unit (CDCU), highlighted the app’s alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s dedication to citizen participation.
“This initiative fulfills the President’s promise at the Cabinet Retreat to ensure citizens are an integral part of tracking the government’s management process,” Ms. Usman stated.
The creation of the app involved close collaboration among the Central Delivery Coordination Unit (CDCU), development partners, and consultants. According to The Daily Nigerian, there were several bilateral meetings held over a six-week period involving ministers, permanent secretaries, and their technical teams.
As explained by Ms. Usman:
“These sessions reviewed the mandate of each ministry in line with the Presidential Priority Areas, ultimately determining the final deliverables and key performance indicators (KPIs) to be tracked.”
The Citizens’ Delivery Tracker App does more than just show information. It offers citizens a platform to directly evaluate the performance of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) using a Delivery Reporting Framework and Template. This framework uses globally recognized standards to ensure fair and transparent assessment.
“We are adopting international best practices to assess the performance of MDAs in implementing government priorities,” Ms. Usman highlighted.
“The app empowers citizens to hold government accountable by providing them with the tools to track progress and offer feedback.”
In conclusion, the Nigerian government has launched the Citizens’ Delivery Tracker App, allowing citizens to monitor government activities in real-time. This initiative aims to enhance transparency and accountability by empowering citizens to assess the performance of government ministries and agencies. Through extensive collaboration and utilizing internationally recognized benchmarks, the app provides a platform for objective evaluation.
