A Nigerian man generously installed a tap outside his house to provide free water for his neighbors. However, to his astonishment, a neighbor locked the tap with a padlock the very next day.
The man shared his experience on X (formerly Twitter) under the username @Niran_GMH. He explained that he intended for everyone in the neighborhood to have easy access to water, but his good intentions were met with an unexpected reaction.
Upon discovering the padlock, he inquired why the neighbor had taken such a drastic measure. The neighbor responded that she believed it was necessary to control access to the tap water.
Here is how the story unfolded according to @Niran_GMH: “I installed a tap outside my fence so neighbors could fetch water. On the very first day, a neighbor bought a padlock and locked it. She claimed it needed regulation. Interestingly, she had never spoken to me or anyone in the house before.”
The man instructed the woman to remove the padlock, insisting that the tap should remain open for everyone to use. This incident quickly gained attention online, sparking a variety of reactions from netizens.
When asked how he responded, the man simply said, “I instructed her to remove the padlock.”

The story stirred many responses on social media. Here are a few notable comments:

- @kemmyjudie joked, “Is she the self-appointed water prefect?”
I created a socket outside for neighbours to charge phone. This neighbour who's a fashion designer brought her machines and connected to it. On top my prepaid units. She said she thought I bypassed NEPA and wasn't paying.
