The PDP has urged all the necessary security authorities to look into the deaths of nine individuals at the residence of Senator Aliyu Wamakko from Sokoto state. Wamakko, who previously served as the governor of Sokoto state, reportedly experienced a chaotic situation at his home while distributing Ramadan supplies to the people. 9 Dead, 30 Injured In Wamakko House Stampede
In the chaos at the senator’s residence, a total of nine individuals lost their lives, including a member of the NSCDC.
Sokoto – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto state is demanding a thorough investigation into the reported chaos at Aliyu Wamakko’s home.
Wamakko, a former governor of the state, currently serves as the senator representing Sokoto North senatorial district in the national assembly.
During the chaos, nine people lost their lives, with over 30 others reportedly injured, including an officer from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Sokoto state command, as reported by Leadership.
Hassan Sahabi Sanyinnawal, the spokesperson of the PDP, stated in a release on Saturday, April 6, that the incident occurred at the senator’s residence while distributing Sallah gifts to members of his community. The PDP conveyed heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a swift recovery to those injured in the incident.
Part of Sanyinnawal’s statement reads:
“The PDP, however, wishes to call on security agencies to launch a thorough investigation into the matter, with a view to forestalling the ugly incident in the future.”
PDP’s Response to Stampede at Wamakko’s Residence
The PDP expressed concerns about the recent stampede at Wamakko’s house. They noted that similar incidents had occurred there before, attributing the cause to poor organization that disregarded human safety. The party emphasized the need for better governance that would uplift people from poverty rather than just distributing cash occasionally.
Ramadan Tragedy: 4 Casualties during Almsgiving
Reports indicated a similar tragedy during almsgiving in Bauchi state, where four individuals lost their lives. The almsgiving zakat was being distributed by Shafa Holding Company Plc at its headquarters along Jos Road. Additionally, a 17-year-old named Naima Abdullahi sustained injuries and has been hospitalized for treatment.
