Oluremi Tinubu Hails Nigerian Mothers as the Nation’s True Heroes on Mother’s Day

Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s First Lady, has paid tribute to mothers across the country and around the world, praising their strength, sacrifices, and the vital role they play in shaping families and society.

In a message released to commemorate Mother’s Day 2026, the First Lady celebrated women for their resilience, courage, and unwavering dedication to their families and communities. She described mothers as the silent builders of the nation’s future and the steady heartbeat that keeps every home together.

Mother’s Day, which is observed in March in some countries, is set aside to honour mothers, motherhood, and the deep bonds that exist between mothers and their children. It also recognises the profound influence mothers have on the development of society.

Reflecting on the significance of the day, Oluremi Tinubu expressed appreciation for the countless ways mothers contribute to the well-being of their families, often putting the needs of others before their own.

“Today, I honour and celebrate every mother across Nigeria,” she said. “Your love, care, and sacrifices do not go unnoticed. Mothers play an irreplaceable role in nurturing families and shaping the values that guide our society.”

She noted that while motherhood is often associated with major sacrifices, it is also defined by the small, everyday acts of love that make a lasting impact on children and families.

“Beyond the big sacrifices, it is the small, quiet moments that truly define a mother’s love,” she added. “On this special day, we remember those moments and express our gratitude for the warmth, patience, and kindness that mothers selflessly give every day.”

The First Lady further described mothers as the true heroes of the nation, highlighting their role in raising responsible individuals who will eventually contribute to the country’s development.

“To all mothers who nurture, love, and shape our families, you are the heroes of our nation,” she said.

Oluremi Tinubu also encouraged mothers to continue guiding and mentoring their children, stressing the importance of passing down values, wisdom, and strength to the younger generation.

“I implore our mothers to continue teaching and guiding their children, instilling in them the virtues and principles that will help them succeed in life,” she said. “The wisdom and strength you pass down today will benefit not only your families but also future generations.”

She concluded her message with a prayer and words of encouragement for mothers, expressing hope that they would live long enough to witness the positive impact of their efforts.

“May we all live to enjoy the fruits of our labour through our children, grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren,” she said.

According to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mother’s Day is celebrated on different dates across the world, most commonly in March or May, depending on the country and cultural tradition. Regardless of when it is observed, the day remains a global occasion dedicated to appreciating the immeasurable love, dedication, and influence of mothers in society.
