Phyna, also known as Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, winner of Big Brother Naija Season 7, recently expressed her dissatisfaction with the show’s organizers for not fulfilling some of her prize winnings from 2022.
In a meeting held at the MultiChoice office on Thursday, April 18, 2024, Phyna, accompanied by her legal representative Olawale Amousa and Michael Obinna Nwabufo, acting president of the Practitioners of Content Creating, Skit-making, and Influencers Guild of Nigeria (PCCSIGN), discussed the ongoing issue of prize redemption.
Sponsor Offers Declined by Phyna
Despite efforts to resolve the matter, Phyna opted to reject the offers put forth by the show sponsors regarding her prize wins. She reiterated her desire to receive what was rightfully hers, including the significant Bitcoin prize and the promised trip for two.
PCCSIGN’s Intervention
PCCSIGN had previously intervened by addressing the matter through a formal letter to the organizers, outlining the specific prizes Phyna was yet to receive. These included 1BTC from Quidax Global, one year’s supply of Pepsi products from Seven-Up Bottling Company, a trip for two to Dubai from Travelbeta, and one year’s supply of soap products from Evans Industries (Unik Soap).
Partial Resolution
In a statement issued by PCCSIGN, it was disclosed that agreements with Pepsi and Unik Soap had been reached, with deliveries scheduled for the following day, Friday, April 19, 2024. However, the offers from Travelbeta and Quidax Global were met with rejection.
While Travelbeta proposed a trip for two to Morocco or Kenya, Phyna and her representatives expressed dissatisfaction with the destination options, as they had initially been offered the Maldives or Jamaica. Additionally, concerns were raised about the valuation of the 1BTC prize, with Phyna’s team insisting on a reflection of the current exchange rate rather than the 2022 equivalent.
Continued Negotiations
Despite the deadlock, MultiChoice has committed to further discussions with Quidax Global to address the concerns raised by PCCSIGN and Phyna. The resolution of these issues remains pivotal for all parties involved, highlighting the importance of fair treatment and transparency in prize redemption processes.
