In a statement from the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, it was explained that VeryDarkMan was invited on suspicions of internet stalking, cyberbullying, and character defamation. Adeh emphasized,

“The FCT Police Command wishes to clarify that VeryDarkMan was not arrested by the police but was only invited for questioning on the allegations of cyberstalking, cyberbullying, and defamation of character.”

Activist Deji Adeyanju revealed that VeryDarkMan was taken in for allegedly exposing a Nigerian who had conned someone abroad. According to Adeyanju, the arrest was ordered by Benneth Igweh, the Police Commissioner of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command.

Deji Adeyanju stated,

“Our client, @thatverydarkman has just been arrested by the police on the instruction of CP Igwe for exposing someone who allegedly duped a Nigerian abroad. Instead of the police arresting the person alleged to have committed the fraud, they arrested VDM on the grounds of defamation.”
