In other news, Dr. Fola David, a dedicated Nigerian doctor and visual artist, has made history by setting a new Guinness World Record (GWR) for the largest drawing by a single person.

Beginning his monumental task on July 16, David transformed Onikan Stadium into a vibrant canvas of creativity and determination. Hailing from the bustling city of Lagos, he embarked on this six-day drawing marathon with a grand vision: to create an enormous map of Nigeria that beautifully represents the country’s rich tapestry of diverse cultures.

With each stroke, he captured the essence and spirit of his homeland.

By Friday, David had not only surpassed the previous record of 629.98 m² (6781.04 ft²), held by India’s Ravi Soni since November 30, 2021, but he shattered it with a breathtaking piece of art. Soni’s record, set in Rajasthan, was dwarfed by David’s extraordinary accomplishment.

David’s aspirations didn’t stop there. He revealed his ultimate goal: to create a stunning 1000 square meters of art, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the visual arts.

Throughout his artistic journey, David was not alone. A host of notable Nigerians gathered at Onikan Stadium to support him, turning the event into a genuine celebration of encouragement and admiration. Among the supporters were Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate, whose presence added political significance; Hilda Baci, the renowned chef and former GWR holder, whose culinary fame and charm added an extra sparkle; and Farooq Oreagba, the dynamic businessman who recently captivated audiences at the 2024 Ojude Oba Festival.

Adding to the chorus of support, the management of the College of Medicine University of Lagos (CMUL), David’s alma mater, demonstrated their strong solidarity.

David’s attempt is expected to conclude on July 21. His record-breaking feat, however, awaits confirmation from the prestigious Guinness World Records.
