Qatar 2022: Poland Refuses to Play Against Russia

Poland will not play Russia in their 2022 World Cup play-off on March 24 in Moscow due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, according to the President of the Polish Football Federation on Saturday.

In a statement on Friday, Cezary Kulesz said “the time has come to act.

“Due to the Russian Federation’s escalation of aggression in Ukraine, the Polish team does not intend to play the play-off against Russia,” adding that it was the “only correct decision.”

He stated that he would collaborate with the Swedish and Czech federations the winners of their match would be required to play in Russia if the latter defeated Poland, to present a unified position to FIFA.
In response to Kulesza’s statement, Robert Lewandowski, the Polish striker at Germany’s most famous club, Bayern Munich, who also captains his country, said: ‘It is the right decision’

‘I can’t imagine playing a match with the Russian National Team while armed aggression in Ukraine is ongoing.’
