Understanding the Phenomenon

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, blocking the Sun’s light either partially or entirely. It’s an awe-inspiring sight for skywatchers.

When Will Solar Eclipse 2024 Occur?

Mark your calendars for Monday, April 8. On this day, the sky will turn into night as the solar eclipse takes place. Some parts of SE Illinois in the US will experience total darkness. This will be the last total eclipse in the contiguous US for nearly two decades. While there might be some thin, high clouds, most of Illinois should offer good viewing conditions. The total eclipse begins in continental North America at 11:07 am PDT, starting with Mexico’s Pacific Coast, as per NASA.

In the US, totality will start in Texas at 1:27 pm CDT and end in Maine at 3:35 pm EDT on Monday, according to GreatAmericanEclipse.com. The partial eclipse will be visible across most of the country at different times and depending on weather conditions.

Duration of the Solar Eclipse 2024

According to Al Jazeera, a total solar eclipse can last between two to three hours from the moment the moon starts covering the sun until it passes. However, the period of totality in most places in 2024 will last only between three and a half to four minutes.

Countries Witnessing the Eclipse

The eclipse’s path begins at Mexico’s Pacific coast at 11:07 a.m. PT (7:07 p.m. local time) before crossing North America. It will be visible in parts of Mexico, Canada, and over 10 US states. Additionally, a crescent-shaped partial eclipse is expected in 49 other states, provided the weather permits.
