Sultan’s Urges Muslims to Seek Shawwal Moon on Monday Ahead of Eid-el-Fitr

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, who is also the President General of the National Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), has urged Muslims to start searching for the Shawwal moon from Monday onwards.

In a statement issued by Prof. Sambo Junaidu, the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs at the Sultanate Council Sokoto, the directive was conveyed to the Muslim community. The statement emphasized that Monday, April 8, which corresponds to the 29th day of Ramadan 1445AH, marks the beginning of the search for the new moon of Shawwal 1445AH.

Seeking the Shawwal Moon: Sultan’s Directive for Eid-el-Fitr

Muslims have been asked to keep an eye out for the new moon of Shawwal 1445AH on Monday and report any sightings to their local District or Village Head, who will then communicate it to the Sultan. Additionally, the public can report sightings through specific telephone numbers provided.

Moreover, members of the public are encouraged to report any sightings of the new moon by contacting the following telephone numbers: 08037157100, 07067416900, 08066303077, 08036149757, 08035965322, and 08099945903.

The Sultan also offered prayers for Allah’s continuous support to Muslims in fulfilling their religious obligations.

Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic calendar, follows immediately after Ramadan and signals the start of the Eid-el-Fitr celebration. This month signifies a fresh start and spiritual renewal after the purification of Ramadan, providing opportunities to maintain the positive habits developed during the holy month.
