The results of the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) revealed a significant trend: approximately 76% of the 1.8 million candidates who participated scored below 200. This staggering statistic translates to 1,402,490 individuals falling short of the 200 mark, according to Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
In contrast, 77,070 candidates achieved scores of 250 and above, with 8,401 attaining 300 and above. The disparity underscores the challenges many encounter in navigating this crucial academic milestone.
JAMB’s New Admission Protocol
In response to evolving needs and challenges, JAMB has introduced a novel format for accepting admissions. Prof. Oloyede announced this development during a press briefing in Abuja on April 29, 2024. The emphasis of the new protocol is on safeguarding candidates’ information and maintaining the integrity of the admission process.
Under the updated guidelines, candidates are required to utilize their registered phone (SIM) for critical operations. This includes the acceptance or rejection of admission offers, including program changes. The process can be completed by either sending “ACCEPT/REJECT” to 55019/66019 from the candidate’s dedicated phone line or by providing biometric confirmation at an accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) center or any JAMB Office.
Prof. Oloyede stressed the significance of candidates’ registered phone numbers, highlighting their heightened importance in facilitating sensitive operations. Discussions are underway with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) regarding the provision of dedicated student SIM cards with restricted services, further reinforcing security measures.
Checking the 2024 UTME Results
Following the release of the 2024 UTME results, candidates can easily access their scores using their smartphones or laptops. The process is streamlined for convenience, allowing individuals to promptly review their performance and plan their next steps accordingly.
