Two officers from the Lagos State Taskforce have been detained and are now facing disciplinary measures after an unauthorized operation led to a civilian’s death on Wednesday.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, shared this information on X.com (formerly Twitter) on Saturday. He was addressing viral videos that showed a disturbing incident where motorcycle riders repeatedly ran over a body in Lagos.

Hundeyin clarified that the officers involved were engaged in an unauthorized operation and had brought along civilians to support their activities. The situation escalated when motorcycle riders attacked the group, resulting in the death of one civilian.

Hundeyin wrote, “Two police officers attached to the Lagos State Taskforce on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, went on illegal duty, taking some civilians with them to shore up their numbers. They came under attack from motorcycle riders, resulting in the death of one of the civilians.”

He also noted that disciplinary proceedings have begun for the detained officers, and efforts are ongoing to locate their civilian accomplices.

“Investigations have commenced to identify, arrest, and prosecute the perpetrators of this dastardly act,” Hundeyin added.
