Xabi Alonso, the Spanish midfielder, chose to stay with Bayer Leverkusen, which disappointed both his old clubs, Liverpool and Bayern Munich. He explained this choice in a recent press conference.

Xabi Alonso, who used to play for Liverpool and Bayern Munich, made it clear that he’s not leaving Bayer Leverkusen for any managerial roles elsewhere. This news disappointed Liverpool and Bayern Munich because they were considering him for their own managerial positions.

Liverpool and Bayern Munich Seek New Managers

Liverpool had been eyeing Alonso as a potential replacement for Jurgen Klopp. However, despite the rumors, Alonso has decided to stay put at Bayer Leverkusen, leaving Liverpool to search for other candidates.

Similarly, Bayern Munich, in need of a successor for their departing manager, Thomas Tuchel, had also shown interest in Alonso. But with Alonso committed to Leverkusen, Bayern will have to consider other options. Ralf Rangnick is among those rumored to be in the running for the job.

Alonso’s Confirmation of Leverkusen Stay

In a recent press conference, Alonso confirmed his decision, saying, “I had a good meeting with Bayer Leverkusen and I informed them that I will stay and continue at the club.” He added that after pondering over his future during the break, he realized Leverkusen was the right place for him.

Success at Bayer Leverkusen

Alonso’s tenure at Leverkusen has been impressive since he took over in October 2022. He has transformed the club, taking them from the relegation zone to the top of the Bundesliga. Leverkusen has also performed well in the Europa League, reaching the quarter-finals for the second year in a row.

Alonso’s choice to stay put at Bayer Leverkusen leaves Liverpool and Bayern Munich scrambling for alternatives. As Leverkusen thrives under his leadership, fans will be eager to see how they perform for the rest of the season.
