David Adeleke, known worldwide as Davido, has initiated legal proceedings against Sophia Momodu, the mother of his first child, Imade, aiming to secure custody of their daughter.
The legal action was filed through his lawyers, Dr. Olaniyi Arije, Okey Barrah, and others, at the Lagos State High Court on April 17, 2024. Davido’s petition requests the court for “an order granting joint custody of Miss Imade Adeleke to the applicant.” Alternatively, he seeks “unfettered and unrestricted access to Miss Imade.”
Identified as the applicant in the case with suit number LD/1587PMC/2024, Davido detailed in a 44-paragraph affidavit his relationship with Sophia Momodu, which resulted in Imade’s birth on May 14, 2015. Although their romantic relationship ended some years ago, Davido emphasized their commitment to co-parenting Imade.
“I have consistently supported Imade financially,” Davido stated, highlighting his payment of school fees and other educational expenses. Additionally, he mentioned providing financial assistance for Sophia’s accommodation, including an offer of a N200 million apartment in a secure community in Oniru, Lagos, which was declined by Sophia.
Despite purchasing a Range Rover for Imade’s transportation needs and offering further financial support, Davido expressed frustration over alleged unreasonable demands from Sophia. These purportedly included high monthly payments for a nanny and lump-sum annual payments.
In addressing concerns over Imade’s well-being, Davido recounted providing alternative vehicles and funds for vehicle repairs upon discovering issues with the initial Range Rover SUV provided to Sophia and Imade.
Their relationship has been contentious, with Sophia previously expressing disappointment that Imade bears Davido’s surname rather than hers. This sentiment was shared via her Instagram Story in 2021.
The legal proceedings underscore Davido’s commitment to securing a stable and nurturing environment for Imade, reflecting his ongoing efforts despite challenges in his co-parenting relationship with Sophia Momodu.
