Rema Makes History In Guinness Book Of Record With ‘Calm Down’

Divine Ikubor, famously known as Rema made it to the Guinness World Book of Records for his world record breaking song, “Calm Down.”

The Mavin signee made history by becoming the first No. 1 hit on the world’s first regional streaming chart and the Middle East and North Africa’s (MENA) first-ever official chart. He has now joined Nigerian musicians like Femi Kuti, and Wizkid with Guinness World Records.

The statement by Guiness Book Of Recordreads in part: “On 29 November 2022, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) announced that “Calm Down” by the Nigerian rapper Rema (b. Divine Ikubor) had become the first No.1 on The Official MENA Chart – the world’s first regional music streaming chart and the first-ever official chart in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

The weekly Top 20 is compiled from data collected from major streaming platforms in 13 MENA nations, totaling more than 300 million people: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, and the United Arab Emirates.

Recently, Rema’s “Calm Down”  broke the record for most Spotify streams by an African singer, with over one billion listens, on the international streaming platform Spotify. 

In Nigeria, Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ is the most viewed Afrobeats song on YouTube surpassing 2 billion streams across all platforms.
