The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said he will soon disclose the full details of a peace agreement that was mediated by President Bola Tinubu to end the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State. Wike made the comment on Wednesday during a thank-you visit to residents of Tai Local Government Area.

The agreement was reached in June 2025 during a closed-door meeting at the State House in Abuja that brought together President Tinubu, Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara. It was intended to settle a long-running struggle that had intensified into a crisis, leading to the declaration of a state of emergency and the suspension of the governor and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Although both Wike and Fubara initially pledged cooperation and a commitment to peace after the meeting, the specific terms of the deal were never made public. Wike now claims that Fubara has failed to honour parts of what was agreed and that the people of Rivers State deserve to know what was decided before the President.
Wike used the occasion to caution local residents against aligning with politicians who do not keep their promises. He said his visit was partly to thank the people for their support, including during the 2023 general elections, and to reaffirm his alliance with the Tinubu administration.
During the same visit, party leaders in the region reiterated their loyalty to Wike and President Tinubu, asserting that political support in areas such as Gokana Local Government Area would remain strong. Some party officials also suggested that Fubara would need to work through Wike to achieve political success in future elections.
The political situation in Rivers remains tense as 2027 approaches, and Wike’s remarks signal that unresolved issues from earlier efforts at reconciliation may continue to shape the state’s political landscape in the months ahead.
