The successful rescue of Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, alongside her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, has taken on a more complex dimension following new revelations from the Oyo State Police Command. What initially appeared to be a swift abduction-and-rescue case has now been exposed as a carefully coordinated criminal operation involving weeks of surveillance, detailed planning, and an alleged attempt to infiltrate the victim’s household for inside information.
During a press briefing held at the State Police Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, the Commissioner of Police, Oluwagbemiga Abimbola, paraded four key suspects connected to the June 3 kidnapping incident. He explained that the operation was far from random or opportunistic, stressing instead that it was the outcome of sustained monitoring and intelligence gathering by a well-organized syndicate.
According to the police findings, the kidnappers spent several weeks observing the movements and daily routines of the Adelabu family. Their activities included tracking the household’s schedule, studying the exact timing of morning departures, identifying the vehicles used by Mrs. John-Paul, and mapping out the route taken when she dropped her children off at school. Investigators noted that this level of detail suggested a deliberate and methodical approach designed to ensure precision during the attack.
Even more concerning, according to the Commissioner of Police, was the discovery that the gang actively attempted to recruit someone within or close to the household to act as an informant. This alleged effort to secure an insider was believed to be part of a broader strategy to gain real-time access to the family’s movements and eliminate any uncertainty before the operation. Security officials believe this attempt played a major role in how the attackers were able to successfully intercept the victims’ vehicle and carry out the abduction along the Elewura-Challenge axis at about 7:30 a.m. on the morning of the attack.

As part of the ongoing investigation led by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department Intelligence Response Team in collaboration with the Oyo State Command, several suspects have now been identified and apprehended. The police described the network as a cross-regional syndicate with members operating across state boundaries, indicating a higher level of coordination than a typical kidnapping group.
Among those paraded was Wale Abolalewa, also known as “Oloro,” who has reportedly been on the radar of security agencies due to previous criminal links in the region. His arrest is said to have provided investigators with crucial intelligence that helped unravel the wider structure of the syndicate.
Another suspect, Dare Oyedele, popularly referred to as “Solution,” was described as a key operational figure responsible for coordinating logistics during the execution of the kidnapping. Information obtained from his interrogation reportedly led security operatives to the location where the victims were held.
The police also identified other members of the group, including individuals tasked with surveillance and armed lookout duties. One suspect, Kelechi, who allegedly traveled from Lagos State, was said to have been assigned to monitor the surroundings of the kidnappers’ hideout and provide security cover for the operation. He was killed during a gun battle when tactical operatives stormed the location where the victims were being kept.
At the scene of the operation, security forces recovered several items believed to have been used by the gang during the kidnapping and their wider criminal activities. These included pump-action firearms, live ammunition, a vehicle suspected to have been used for trailing and intercepting the victims, as well as various tools and items such as cutlasses, hammers, masks, suspected charms, and substances believed to be hard drugs. Authorities described the discovery as evidence of a highly organized and dangerous criminal enterprise.

Following the rescue operation, the Oyo State Government moved swiftly to demolish the building used as the gang’s operational base. The structure, located in Araromi Quarters, Ayegun North in the Oluyole Local Government Area, was pulled down less than 48 hours after the victims were freed. Officials said the action was part of the state’s firm stance against violent crime and a warning to criminal networks operating within the state.
Meanwhile, attention has also shifted to the possible motive behind the abduction, given the political prominence of Chief Adebayo Adelabu, who is a former minister and a known aspirant within the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 governorship race in Oyo State. This has led to speculation about whether the attack was purely financially motivated or influenced by political considerations.
The Commissioner of Police noted that investigations are still ongoing and that authorities are not ruling out any possibilities at this stage. He emphasized that the primary focus remains the complete dismantling of the criminal network and ensuring the safety of all victims, while broader questions regarding motivation will be addressed as the investigation progresses.
With several suspects already in custody, others neutralized, and additional gang members reportedly on the run, security agencies say operations are still ongoing to track down fleeing suspects who escaped with injuries during the raid. The police command has reiterated its commitment to tightening security and preventing similar incidents, particularly those involving targeted surveillance of high-profile individuals and their families.
