Viral Moment as Delta State Governor Selects Davido Over Wizkid in “This or That.”

Sheriff Oborevwori, the governor of Delta State, recently chose Davido over Wizkid in a viral “This or That” game shared on the state government’s official X account, reigniting one of Nigeria’s most talked-about music rivalries.

On March 9, the Delta State Government posted a lighthearted video showing the governor participating in the quick-choice game. The questions ranged from everyday preferences such as vehicles to football loyalties. However, the moment that drew the most attention online was when the governor picked Davido over Wizkid.

The response from Nigerian social media was immediate and predictable. Fans of Davido celebrated the choice in the comment section, while Wizkid supporters pushed back, continuing a long-standing rivalry between the fan bases of the two Afrobeats stars. As usual, the debate was lively and passionate.

For many observers of Nigerian politics and entertainment, the governor’s answer was not particularly surprising.

The Davido versus Wizkid debate has dominated Nigerian pop culture for years. Musicians, celebrities, fans, and even public officials have at times been drawn into the conversation, which often pushes people to take sides between two of Afrobeats’ most influential artists.

Davido has also been one of the most politically visible artists in Nigeria. His public presence in political spaces is partly linked to his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State. Over the years, Davido has appeared at political rallies, inaugurations, and government events, making him a familiar figure in political circles in a way that Wizkid and Burna Boy largely have not. Because of that, a governor choosing him in a public setting felt more expected than surprising.

Beyond the music debate, the game revealed a few other personal preferences of the governor. He chose an SUV over a sedan, preferred commissioning projects to inspection visits, and selected the executive arm of government over the legislative arm.

When asked to choose between Asaba and Warri, the governor picked Asaba, which also serves as the state capital.

Perhaps the most unusual answer came when the topic shifted to football. Governor Oborevwori said he does not support any club, which is somewhat rare among Nigerian public figures who often openly support popular European teams.

The post itself highlights a growing shift in how Nigerian state governments use social media. Rather than sticking strictly to formal announcements, many are now sharing lighter and more relatable content aimed at connecting with younger audiences and humanising public officials.

Governor Oborevwori has also been active in promoting development projects in the state. His administration recently inspected the College of Health Technology in Ovrode ahead of its commissioning. Officials say the facility will train radiographers and other healthcare professionals to help address skill shortages in the state.

The governor has also spoken about expanding opportunities for young people and women across Delta State as part of his administration’s broader development plans.
