A young Nigerian woman has taken her grandmother to court for not repaying a loan of N95,000, which was borrowed five months ago.
According to the distressed young woman, her grandmother borrowed the money in January with a promise to repay it by June. However, despite repeated requests, the debt remains unpaid.
“She borrowed money from me and has not returned it. This has been going on since January 10th. It’s now five months later, and she promised to pay in June. When I asked her about it, she said she wouldn’t repay me because she’s taking care of me and buying me clothes,” the young woman explained.
The grandmother defended herself by stating that the young woman lives with her for free, eats her food, and receives clothes from her.
In her own words:
“She stays in my house without paying rent. I told her I needed the money for my shop. I took N95,000 from her and said I would pay it back in June. I did say I would pay her back, but I don’t really intend to. She is my child, so why should I have to pay her? If I tell her I won’t pay, she won’t give me the money. I will pay her back when she calms down. After all, I have cared for her from primary to secondary school.”
