An unidentified man has climbed a broadcast mast in protest of the worsening conditions in Nigeria, demanding that the Nigerian Government reinstate the fuel subsidy. The incident is currently unfolding at Katampe Hill in Abuja, where the man is threatening to jump unless his demands are met.
The man’s primary demands are the restoration of fuel subsidies and an end to the ongoing insecurity in the country. This protest comes after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced the removal of fuel subsidies during his inauguration, describing them as wasteful.
In a letter left behind, the man called on fellow Nigerians to join his protest. The letter reads:
“IT’S LONG ENOUGH!!! – Long enough for the government to stand by and do nothing while Boko Haram, bandits, and kidnappers kill people daily. – Long enough for citizens to suffer from hunger. – Long enough for the inflation rate to rise rapidly. – Long enough for the number of out-of-school children to keep increasing. – Long enough for me to remain silent.”
Man’s Demands for Government Action
On behalf of fellow Nigerians, I demand the following:
- The government should reinstate the fuel subsidy.
- The government should declare a state of emergency in Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Kaduna, Niger, and Borno due to insecurity and take immediate action to eradicate terrorism in these states and the country at large.
- The government should open borders for food importation to address the food shortage in the country.
- The government should immediately address the issue of the increasing number of out-of-school children.
These are the major problems facing Nigerians, and I am ready to sacrifice my life for their resolution.
