“We are disappointed with the decision to pursue what we believe is an unjust prosecution of Mr. Combs by the U.S. Attorney’s Office,” his attorney, Marc Agnifilo, said in an email to The Independent, calling Combs “an innocent man with nothing to hide.”

Agnifilo added, “Mr. Combs has been fully cooperative with the investigation and even moved to New York last week in anticipation of these charges. Please hold off on judgment until all the facts are clear.”

The charges against Combs were not immediately disclosed.

“Earlier this evening, federal agents arrested Sean Combs, based on a sealed indictment from the [U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York],” U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said in a statement to The Independent. “We expect to unseal the indictment tomorrow and will provide more details then.”

The arrest was carried out by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), following a federal grand jury indictment, according to ABC News.

Combs was reportedly arrested at a Midtown hotel, TMZ said, citing unnamed sources.

In recent months, Combs has faced multiple sexual misconduct lawsuits, and the Department of Homeland Security raided him earlier this year as part of a sex trafficking investigation.

A source familiar with the investigation told NBC News that federal investigators have interviewed various individuals about allegations of sex trafficking, sexual assault, and illegal drug and firearm activity.

Since November, Combs has faced eight lawsuits accusing him of sexual misconduct, some dating back several decades, The New York Times reports. He has denied all allegations.

Last week, former bandmate Dawn Richard sued Combs in New York federal court, accusing him of years of physical and sexual abuse involving her and others.

Combs denied these accusations as well.

Late last year, singer Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, Combs’ former girlfriend, filed a lawsuit against him, claiming he was “prone to uncontrollable rage,” gave her drugs, and forced her into sexual activities with other men. That lawsuit was settled in November.

In May, CNN obtained footage from 2016, showing Combs assaulting Ventura in a Los Angeles hotel hallway. He later apologized for the incident.

CNN also reported in May that investigators are preparing to bring Combs’ accusers before a grand jury to testify.
