Major-General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, conveyed this resolve in a statement released on Friday in Abuja.

Buba emphasized that the military’s response to this heinous act would be fierce and uncompromising, aiming to bring decisive military pressure on IPOB to ensure their total defeat.

He explained that troops from Operation UDO KA, stationed at the Obikabia Junction Checkpoint in the Obingwa Local Government Area near Aba, were attacked and tragically killed by IPOB/ESN terrorists.

According to Buba, the soldiers were deployed to maintain peace and protect the citizens in the area when they were ambushed by the terrorists. The attackers, who arrived in three tinted Prado Toyota SUVs and were supported by assailants from nearby built-up areas, launched a surprise assault on the checkpoint.

“The attack sadly resulted in the loss of five armed forces personnel. The military mourns these fallen troops deeply, as every soldier lost in battle is a significant and grievous loss,” Buba stated.

He noted that investigations into the attack are ongoing, stressing the critical role of local support in counter-terrorism efforts. “The lifeline of the terrorists is the people, and IPOB has exploited this to carry out attacks on our troops. Winning this war without the people’s support is nearly impossible, and the current situation underscores this reality,” he said.

Buba underscored the necessity for a robust military retaliation. “It is absolutely imperative that the military responds fiercely to this dastardly act against our troops. We will bring overwhelming military pressure on the group to ensure their total defeat,” he reiterated.

The military’s commitment to defeating IPOB and ensuring peace in the region remains unwavering.
