Sundry Markets Hosts Free Medical Program for Yenagoa Residents

Sundry Markets Limited (SML), the company behind Marketsquare, Nigeria’s largest indigenous grocery retailer, has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting local communities through its medical outreach program, “Marketsquare Cares.”

The initiative aims to improve healthcare access and enhance health outcomes for underserved populations in Nigeria.

Emmanuel Isangediok, Head of Marketing at SML, stated that the free medical outreach in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, demonstrates the company’s dedication to improving healthcare for communities in need.

Conducted in partnership with Pro-Health International, the program provided a wide range of services, including free medical consultations, specialized surgeries, eye care, blood sugar and blood pressure screenings, dental check-ups, and health education sessions.

Ebele Enunwa, Managing Director and CEO of SML, expressed excitement about the turnout and emphasized the positive impact of the outreach on the community. He said, “Yenagoa has given us so much. Our first store opened here in 2015, and we learned many valuable lessons. The people showed us love, and this is our way of giving back to society.”

He added that customer support enables SML to contribute to the community, stating, “It is easier to give when you have. When customers spend money in our stores, it empowers us to give back with a little extra.”

Enunwa also highlighted the company’s commitment to social responsibility, saying, “We are helping society distribute wealth in the best way we can. This is our way of returning the love that the people of Yenagoa have shown us.”

During the outreach, 3,772 patients received care, which included more than 9,800 medical interventions. Services ranged from general consultations and surgeries to eye procedures, dental care, health education, and laboratory investigations.

Sundry Markets Limited has previously carried out similar programs in cities such as Port Harcourt in Rivers State, Benin City in Edo State, and Aba in Abia State, successfully providing healthcare services to thousands of underserved individuals.
