Enugu State has seen a recent crackdown on cybercrime, with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) apprehending 23 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud. The EFCC’s Enugu Zonal Command disclosed this development in a statement released on X.com on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the arrests were made on May 10, 2024, in various locations including Igboeze, Nsukka, and Enugu metropolis. The action followed intelligence reports pointing to the suspects’ involvement in online criminal activities.
During the operation, law enforcement recovered significant items, including three cars, mobile phones, laptops, a Point Of Sale (POS) machine, and various incriminating documents from the apprehended individuals.
The statement further emphasized that the suspects would face legal proceedings once investigations are concluded.
This incident is not isolated, as similar crackdowns have occurred in other states as well. Recently, according to a report by PUNCH Online, EFCC operatives conducted separate raids in Cross River and Osun states, resulting in the arrest of a total of 108 individuals suspected of internet fraud.
