‘Game of Thrones’ Spin-Off ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Set for 2025 Release

Exciting news for Game of Thrones fans! HBO has officially announced that production has begun for its latest spin-off series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight. The series is set to bring George R.R. Martin’s beloved tales of Dunk and Egg to the screen, with filming currently underway in Belfast, Ireland.

The Cast and Crew

Leading the cast, Peter Claffey will portray Ser Duncan the Tall, while Dexter Sol Ansell will play his squire, Egg. They are joined by a talented ensemble, including:

  • Finn Bennett as Prince Aerion Targaryen
  • Bertie Carvel as Prince Baelor Targaryen
  • Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle
  • Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon
  • Sam Spruell as Prince Maekar Targaryen

The series boasts a strong directorial team. Sarah Adina Smith, known for her work on Lessons In Chemistry and Hanna, will direct three of the six episodes in the first season. The remaining episodes will be helmed by Owen Harris, who also serves as an executive producer. Alongside Harris, the executive production team includes George R.R. Martin, Ira Parker, Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis, and Sarah Bradshaw.

The Storyline

Set approximately 100 years before the events of Game of Thrones and 100 years after House of the Dragon, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall, a noble knight, and his young squire, Egg. Egg eventually becomes King Aegon V Targaryen. Their journey will take them to a knightly competition where they will meet various Targaryens and other prominent figures in Westeros, including Ser Lyonel Baratheon, known as the Laughing Storm, and a puppeteer named Tanselle.

The series is based on Martin’s novella, The Hedge Knight, and promises to deliver the same blend of political intrigue, perilous exploits, and formidable adversaries that captivated fans of the original series.

David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, has confirmed that the show is scheduled for a late 2025 release.
