Mercy Eke recently expressed her shock and disappointment following the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) announcement to revoke Heritage Bank’s banking license. This decision, led by Yemi Cardoso of the CBN, was made due to the bank’s ongoing financial difficulties over the past five years and its struggle with bad loans.
Eke, who became popular after winning Big Brother Naija (BBN), shared that she was advised to open an account with Heritage Bank to receive her winnings. Unaware of the bank’s financial instability, she entrusted them with over N100 million.
In response to the situation, the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) assured customers that those with deposits under N5 million would be reimbursed within a week. However, customers with larger deposits, like Eke, will need to wait until the bank’s assets are liquidated to receive their funds.
Mercy Eke expressed her frustration and self-blame in a heartfelt post, lamenting the unexpected loss of her substantial savings.
